Family Promise of Greater Denver is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization independently associated with a national organization comprised of more than 187 affiliates in 42 states. We partner with diverse, faith congregations to provide shelter, meals and hospitality to homeless families across the Denver-metro area. Family Promise began serving area families in November 1997 with 10 host congregations and four support congregations. We now have two rotations with 24 host congregations, 42 support congregations and two civic groups that support our mission:

To provide homeless families with emergency shelter, meals and supportive services on their path to self-sufficiency.

Watch a video about the families we serve! Two components are vital to the provision of services to our clients: partners that provide shelter and our day site …

Shelter: Various community congregations provide nightly shelter to families in our program. Each location is staffed by trained volunteers with 24-hour support from the Family Promise team. Host congregations create private or semi-private bedrooms for each family using meeting or education rooms. Some congregations even creatively use fellowship halls or gyms by partitioning the space to create rooms. Support congregations partner with host congregations to facilitate volunteers, activities and supplies during the week.

Family Promise also provides roll-away beds, which are transported to a new host congregation in the network every week. The volunteers coordinate meals, evening and overnight support as well as transportation to and from the day site using the Family Promise vans. Family Promise staff and community volunteers facilitate weekly Life Skills classes in budgeting, job readiness, job retention, nutrition, healthy communications and tenant skills. These classes are held in the evenings at the Host sites.

Day site: At the day site (staffed seven days a week), Family Promise staff and volunteers provide case management, referrals and support. The families are able to conduct housing and job searches through the use of the day site’s computer lab and phones. The day site also has a play room for children, a break room and a quiet room.
